Creating a tidy home seems to be an impossible dream with our super busy lives of work, family and commitments. Having a tidy home, however, is key for me at least in feeling relaxed and emotionally present with my family. Isn't it hard to relax when surrounded by so many obvious to do tasks? So here are a few things that have helped me free up my time and create an oasis for myself and my family.
1. Declutter
Assess Each Room: Go through each room and identify items you no longer need.
Sort Items: Create piles for keeping, donating, and discarding.
One Room at a Time: Focus on one room to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
2. Organize
Use Storage Solutions: Invest in bins, baskets, and shelves to keep items organized.
Label Everything: Clearly label boxes and containers for easy identification.
Designate Spaces: Assign specific places for all items to ensure they have a home.
3. Establish Cleaning Routines
Daily Tasks: Make your bed, do the dishes, and tidy up clutter each day.
Weekly Cleaning: Schedule time for deeper cleaning tasks like vacuuming and dusting.
Monthly Maintenance: Set aside time for tasks like organizing closets and decluttering again.
4. Maintain Tidiness
Follow the One In, One Out Rule: For every new item you bring in, let go of an old one.
Set a Timer: Spend 10-15 minutes a day tidying up to keep clutter at bay.
Involve Everyone: If you live with others, encourage them to participate in maintaining a tidy home.
5. Create a Cleaning Schedule
Daily Tasks: List tasks that need to be done daily.
Weekly Tasks: Identify tasks that should be done weekly, such as laundry and bathroom cleaning.
Seasonal Tasks: Include tasks that are seasonal, like window washing or garage cleaning.
6. Personalize Your Space
Decorate Intentionally: Choose decor that reflects your style while keeping surfaces clear.
Maintain Minimalism: Avoid overcrowding spaces with too many items.
Keep Essentials Accessible: Ensure frequently used items are easy to reach and organized.
By following these steps and developing consistent habits, you can create and maintain a tidy home that feels welcoming and organized. Hope this is a little help getting the tasks done and back to that coffee and book!
