CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

Traditions are an important thing. They anchor us to something greater than ourselves and into our own story and history. The best traditions live on in the hearts of family for generations to come, sparking happiness and joy, and a sense of connection to themselves and yesteryear and to all those that have gone before them. Some of the most significant traditions in our home happen around Christmas time as the birth of Jesus Christ is pivotal to us. Some of our sweet traditions are ones from our past , some that acknowledge loved ones that are no longer with us, and some that we’ve created just for us. Here is a list of our favorite….

  1. Watching our favorite Christmas movies at least 30 days prior to Christmas.

  2. Going somewhere special over the holiday season, making new memories and choosing a decoration at that location for the tree.

  3. Making a Christmas decor item together as a way to connect.

  4. Christmas carols in the car and on the TV on high rotation.

  5. Buying a live Christmas tree together.

  6. Baking, some special goodies leading up to Christmas Day

  7. Hosting a hot cocoa, apple cider and treats on the lawn with our Neighbourhood. This one has been special to create community and togetherness with the ones that live around us.

  8. Turning on a special candle to remember my husband‘s mum, and my children’s MaMaw.

  9. Decorating a gingerbread House

  10. Hot cocoa and marshmallows in our christmas mugs, reading books about Christmas throughout the season

  11. Christmas Eve church- always so special to remember the true meaning of Christmas in our home. (I know that’s 11- snuck that one in )

Well there you have it- some of our near and dear traditions. What Christmas traditions do you hold dear? It’s never too late to start a new tradition so if you can’t think of many, or any, why not give it a go- you will love it I promise. All the very best to you and your family over this holiday season and I wish you peace and joy and a little bit of sparkle.
